Getting Internet Traffic 3 : Things To Avoid Doing

By this time if you have read through my archive, you should be getting a respectable income regularly by now. As your income is growing, I understand that some of you have the tendency try out certain ways or tactics which you think can increase your web-site's internet traffic. However, do note that there are certain things which you definitely want to avoid doing, as it can potentially result you in being banned from Google (being banned from Google will mean your website address, or URL, will not appear in the search result - your website being deleted from Google database). Thus, I will list down some of the common mistakes people do online to increase their traffic.
  1. The Invisible Words
    • If you have read my previous post, Getting Internet Traffic 2 : Increase Your Google's PageRank, you should know that by having more relevant keywords on your site, the higher your Google's PageRank will be when someone Google for the relevant keywords at the search engine. Now, how about making a chunk of relevant keywords somewhere at the site and make them invisible by setting their color the same as the background? For example, this sentence is made invisible by making them the same color as the background ( <- highlight this sentence to make it visible). Won't it be great ?
    • But hold on, Google's bot is smart enough to detect this kind of trick and the end result is not a higher Google PageRank, but a site banned. So, don't every try this.

  2. Keyword Stuffing
    • Another tick you might thought of could be making a nonsense paragraph fulfilled with repetitive keywords and place it somewhere on your site where visitors will not be bothered by it. For example, if your site specialized in selling photo, you might have the tendency to construct this kind of sentence - this photo is a good photo as this photo is a photo showing a photo of photo.
    • Now, again, Google's bot will detect this kind of keywords stuffing sentence and penalize your website for it.

  3. Doorway Pages
    • Creating another alternative site to direct the audience to your main site is against the rule set by the various search engines' bot as well. Doorway pages are defined as pages designed for a specific keywords or phrase; pages that don't have anyone pointing to them but only points to your main site's homepage.
    • For example, if your website is selling shoes, you created another website that focused on selling shoe lace. Thus, you make it highly relevant to anyone searching for shoelace in Google. But in there, it is just links that take the visitors to your main site. This is a form of doorway pages - just another door to your main site.
    • If you really need to create another website that is complement to your main website, but not serve as doorway pages, try adding other links on the website other than your main website link.

  4. Having Too Many Offsite Links
    • Having too many links on your site that link to other sites outside of your domain will trigger a alarm in the various search engines' bot. The search engines' bot will think of your site as a link farm (a link farm website is a useless website designed to include as many link on it as possible that links to other website.)
    • So, try limiting your website links that point to offsite (website outside of your domain. For example, for this blog, anything that starts with http://deltaswat.blogspot.com is considered in the same domain.)
5. Duplicated Contents Somewhere Else
    • Applying the term 'divide and conquer' into website making? Better don't. Search engine will penalize any sites that has almost over 90% similar content. Well, it is a good trick to put up as many sites as possible that serve the same purpose, be it selling a shoe or sharing of information. However, a better alternative is to change the layout, content and pictures of the other site, so that it won't trigger the alarm in the search engine bots.
Alright folks, I hope these tips have helped you become more aware of how the various search engines' bot penalize or delete websites from their database. Stick to these to avoid facing the same fate!
